Hetonbekendecontinent
Aan het eind van de negentiende en begin twintigste eeuw kreeg men steeds meer interesse in Antarctica. Alle continenten waren namelijk reeds verkend; alleen Terra Australis Incognita (onbekend zuidland - zoals Antarctica toentertijd werd genoemd) was nog onbekend voor de mens.
